More than $1530 Raised!
Middle school and high school students at Heritage gathered to remember the heroes of Flight 93 and 9/11 on Monday, Sept. 10. 2012 at 8:30 a.m. Heritage spent many months of the past school year learning about Flight 93 and 9/11/01, visiting the Flight 93 National Memorial, attending the national dedication ceremony, and raising and donating money to help fund completion of the national memorial. On Sept. 10, Sharon Deitrick, founder of 93 Cents for Flight 93,spoke to students and was presented with a check for more than $1530, which was raised 93 cents at time, in many cases. Heritage also will present her with a Flight 93 banner, signed by hundreds of students, families and community leaders, that will be housed in the national memorial. Heritage students continue to honor and tell the story of the many heroes who willingly gave their lives to protect the lives and freedoms of others.

UPDATE: 11/4/11 Every student who raises at least 93 cents gets to post a heart on our lobby wall. The wall is filling up! Mrs. Kasler's seventh grade is selling pencils and has raised more than $60 by donating mechanical pencils and selling them for a quarter in the classroom. We received a $75 donation all the way from Texas and have received many local donations. Our Student Council donated all the profits from their Sweetest Day Flower Sale to the Flight 93 fund. Flight 93 t-shirts are still available for sale at $10 with 100 percent of the proceeds going to Flight 93. Help us fund the Flight 93 National Memorial!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Canton, OH, August 26, 2011 – Students at Heritage Christian School in Canton, Ohio will be working to raise 93 Cents for Flight 93. Heritage is partnering with the organization to honor the heroes of Flight 93, and help raise funds to build a permanent national memorial near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
As the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks approaches, Heritage students are planning projects to earn or raise 93 cents each to be donated toward building the memorial.
Heritage students recently became connected with the campaign and its leader, Sharon Deitrick. Deitrick is president of the HALO Foundation in Akron, OH, which is using this campaign “to connect these young people to the Flight 93 National Memorial through service and charity,” according the website http://93centsforflight93.org. Deitrick is a Lincoln High School alum and former Canton resident. Heritage is housed in the former Lincoln High School. Deitrick has been looking for a Canton school to become involved in the project, and she found Heritage.
“It’s a natural connection for Heritage to work not only with a Lincoln High School alumnus, but also with an organization desiring to honor the men and women of character who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001,” said Brian L. Brooks, Administrator at Heritage. “We are excited to be part of it.”
The goal is for students to become educated about the events of September 11, 2001, a part of their history that most school-age students don’t remember firsthand. Once, they understand the story and the selfless sacrifices, students are encouraged to raise at least 93 cents per student by making some personal sacrifice of their time, energy or money.
”We will encourage students to sacrifice something they value, or work to earn the 93 cents, in order to help them understand the sacrifice made by so many, many people on and after September 11, and by the 40 passengers of Flight 93 who did not allow terrorist hijackers to fly their plane into its intended destination on September 11,” said Wendy Nowak, director of communications at Heritage Christian School. “And we will encourage them to pray that the U.S. and entire world would come to know the only Savior Jesus Christ, who gave His own perfect life as a sacrifice that brings freedom from condemnation to those who believe on His name.”
